Brave New Blog

I got to thinking today how cool it would be if I had DSL at home. It would allow me to do a number of things which I can't do now. I've come up with a list of some of these things:

  1. Regularly update the websites I run (www.kevinowens.org, www.draconika.com, and www.owensinternet.com.)

  2. Play online games! Maybe get interested in MMORPGs again.

  3. Do Internet research for school homework projects.

  4. Set up a connection on my home computer so I could access its files from work or school.

  5. Spend time online researching and learning new computer technologies.

  6. E-mail from home.

  7. Watch Flash cartoons.

Now, of course, most of this could be done using my existing dial-up Internet access. However, a number of factors make extended use of the connection impractical:

  • I only get 10 hours each month

  • The connection is slow

  • There is an annoying ad window, preventing me from playing games like StarCraft

  • and, it ties up my telephone line.

On a sunnier note, I finally got through to the ACM at school and got a product ID code to install my free copy of Windows XP Pro. I think I'll do that tonight.

Oh, and tomorrow we will be having our first LAN party at work. I'll be setting up for that tonight.

I recently had a fabulous birthday party. As I have just turned twenty, I had some loved ones over to my home to celebrate. I really enjoyed being with them, and I must say that this was the best birthday party I have ever had. My wife made a white cake in the shape of a "20", I publicly opened some presents, and I enjoyed a rather grand old time.

I have also finished reading The Invisible Man by H. G. Wells and Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne. I thoroughly enjoyed them both. I suppose I should now try to finish some books I am still half-reading: Ivanhoe and Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. I'll keep you posted.

Having been in such a delightful mood, and coming to really appreciate this vernal time in my life, I have written a poem. A brand new one, just today. You can read it in the poetry section of my website. It is entitled Springtime.
